ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My art career has incorporated the disciplines of my years in the creation and production of commercial art with the lessons of my fine art training acquired in accomplishing a Master of Fine Art degree.  Overtime I have synthesized these many exposures into my creative voice represented in the artwork here.

 

In selecting subject matter to paint, I look for images to explore themes about moments in time that denote existence, solitude, beauty in the face of chaos, and how that adds color to life.  Working from my sketches and photographs for reference, I draw and redraw the painting’s image to achieve a defining mood and emphasize spatial relationships in the composition.

 

My paintings are a personal chronicling of places and things I’ve seen that have inspired and evoked compelling questions to be examined. They are visual statements that articulate a perception of and/or the emotional content in the image portrayed.  The paintings provide opportunities to connect with viewers and to allow them their own unique experience to engage with the image.
